THE NEW landlord of a pub in Flintshire has said he won't revert a no-dog policy, and says he wants to offer something different to other establishments.

Jason Mighty has recently taken on the Fox & Grapes, in Hawarden, which had been shut for a couple of months after the previous landlord gave up the lease on the building.

And despite a controversial policy of not allowing dogs in the pub, Jason, whose family are allergic, said it's been an encouraging start for his first business venture.

"Many people simply aren't bothered either way, and are just happy just to see the Fox open again," he said.

"We have actually had people in who said they have come here specifically because we have a no dogs policy, and that they want to support us as a result."

His comments come after a post on a local social media group about the matter gathered over 180 comments.

"It's always going to be something that divides opinion," Jason said.

Jason said he wants to offer "something different" to other pubs in the area.

"It's early days, but we have a lot of exciting things in the pipeline," he said.

"We are offering in-house J20s, made fresh. There is a full cocktail menu, and we are in the process of training up all our staff so they can make them on request. We will be having staff cocktail competitions, which will be judged by patrons, wine tasting, live music nights and over 30s nights.

"We're a pub, but we want to be unique. I'm determined to make it the centre of this beautiful village once again."

Jason said the kitchen is in the final stages of preparation, and will be offering food from August 29.

There will be a brunch and full evening menu, and takeaway coffee on sale.
