An evening with former Wrexham star Lee Trundle is being held in aid of a Reds' fan recently diagnosed with cancer.

Darren Jones, or 'Twinkle' as he is more commonly known by his friends has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer set to put him out of work for some time.

A self-employed plasterer and father of two, Darren is in need of further surgery and will be unable to work until his treatment is finished. Which with the current cost of living is set to make it financially difficult for him to support his family.

Darren's sister Lindsey has already set up a GoFundMe page which has raised over £5,500 of it's £10,000 target.

An avid Wrexham fan, Darren is part of the 'Fat Boar Reds', and one of his good friends Kev Taylor has organised an evening with Lee Trundle in aid of his mate.

The event is at 7.30pm on August 5 at the Maesgwyn, with Kev hoping to help out Darren and his family.

He said: "It's going to be financially hard for him, being off work with the surgeries required.

"We were talking about doing a sportsman's dinner anyway so we thought we could do it in aid of him.

"We're big Wrexham fans and I met him through going to watch football and I've known him for years."

When the idea of organising the event started to come into fruiton, Kev got in touch with Maesgwyn and Fat Boar owner Richard Watkin about the possibility of hosting one at his venue.

Kev added: "Rich was keen to do it and he got in touch with Lee Trundle who was also keen to help out.

"Hopefully we can get a sell-out and raise a bit of money for him. We're planning on having a few auctions and raffles on the night too, so that should help.

"He's a proper nice lad and it's a hard time for him really, it's devastating. Hopefully, this can help a little bit."
