THE MP for Delyn hopes a 'willingness to work together' with relevant authorities can keep plans for a new railway station in Flintshire on the right track.

The Holywell area has been without a service for rail passengers since the station in Greenfield closed in 1966.

Located on the old Holywell Junction station site in Greenfield, a new station would provide a long term and sustainable driver for the future economic wellbeing of Holywell and North Flintshire linking in with the local Active Travel Plan.

One of those who has long campaigned to see the return of a railway line in the area is Delyn MP Rob Roberts, who discussed the plans in a debate in the House of Commons back in January.

Last week, Mr Roberts welcomed the latest meeting held on the matter with Welsh Minister for Climate Change Lee Waters MS.

The pair met to discuss the current progress of the project and the new North Wales Transport Commission.

Mr Roberts highlighted the need for the new station in Greenfield, one of the most deprived areas of his constituency.

He explained to the Minister the positive impact it will have on local residents lives and the local economy.

Mr Roberts said: “I welcome the meeting with Deputy Minister Waters. As I have said before, a new station in Greenfield will have a huge positive impact on local residents and businesses.

“We are currently waiting for the full findings of the “WelTAG Stage 1” report, and the project will now be reviewed and prioritised under the North Wales Transport Commission recently set up by Welsh Government.

"I will happily work with UK Department for Transport, the Welsh Government and the North Wales Transport Commission to ensure that this project continues at pace.

“I hope the willingness to work together on this and other transport related projects continues for the benefit of our community.”
