A POLICE Inspector has moved to reassure residents about efforts to tackle dangerous driving on a Wrexham road.

The Leader reported earlier this week on concerns about the A539 Llangollen Road.

Ruabon resident Kevin Andrews, 59, said he fears for the safety of motorists and pedestrians after witnessing speeding and people cutting each other off on the roundabout by Costa.

Leader readers took to our Facebook page to share their thoughts on the matter.

Andrea Jones said: "This area is a death trap! I've seen a few near misses when I've been walking there."

Shane Swift posted: "Only issue with that roundabout is it needs lines painting on approaching lanes, as some just don’t know how to use a roundabout."

Jodie Louise said: "The road should have clear signage. Nobody seems to know what lane they are supposed to be using.

"It's constantly leading to undertaking and overtaking and some really close near misses."

Amy Victoria Jones added: "This road is awful. People don't use indicators and speed."

Darren Griffiths said: "Seen so many people cutting others up or not giving way to people already on the roundabout and pulling out in front of them.

"Everybody seems to be in such a rush when it comes to this one it seems."

Inspector Gavin Gilmore of the Wrexham Rural policing team said: “As a force we understand that speeding on the roads is a serious concern among communities.

“It’s an issue that is taken very seriously, and one we strive to tackle with regular speed awareness campaigns involving members of the public, councillors and community leaders.

“This particular stretch of road in Ruabon has a 30mph section which becomes national speed limit a short distance later.

“Officers patrol this area often, both on foot and in police vehicles. We will always listen to the concerns of residents and local business owners and act on any information provided.

“The road is used primarily by local residents, who are central to our educational messaging on road safety.

“This messaging is rooted in the ‘Fatal 5’ campaign, which highlights the risks involved in drink/drug driving, excess speed, mobile phone use, careless driving, and promotes the importance of seatbelt-wearing.

“We are proactive in publicising these messages on our social media channels, which are also used to bring the public’s attention to successful drink/drug drive-related arrests that are made in the district.

“The consequences of excess speed and dangerous driving can be devastating and our force channels are clear about the consequences for those caught being reckless behind the wheel.

“As the district Inspector for local policing services I will always listen to our community members and endeavour to respond, as well as highlighting the demands on my team.”
