A MAN ended his birthday night out by shouting racially offensive slurs in the street and headbutting a police car window, a court heard.

Haydn Stott, of Fairford Road in Chester, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old admitted that on March 15 in Abbott Street, Wrexham, he used racially aggravated threatening or abusive words or behaviour, he resisted a police officer and also damaged a police vehicle.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, said at around 3am officers were asked by CCTV operators to attend to an incident involving an agitated male.

He appeared to be intoxicated and aggressive, openly shouting racially aggravated comments about Travellers in the street.

After that, he was angry and obstructive and had to be 'captor sprayed' by officers.

When being put into a police car he headbutted the cell window, which cracked as a result.

In interview, when watching a video of his behaviour, he told police: "I do look pretty f****d like, that's not me normally," before asking for it to be turned off.

Patrick Geddes, defending, said: "He'd been out for his birthday and clearly consumed too much alcohol.

"There was a dispute with another man and he was verbally abusive.

"He is very sorry for his actions."

District Judge Gwyn Jones handed down fines totalling £400 for the abusive behaviour and resisting police - as well as ordering £100 compensation to North Wales Police for the damage to the window.

Other than the compensation, no separate penalty was imposed for the damaged window - but Stott was ordered to pay £85 costs.
