GARDENING requires skill, precision and patience and was a hobby many people picked up during the 2020 lockdown.

However, for Stuart Hellen from near Mold, he has always had an eye for stunning flowers and plants and enjoyed getting out in the garden.

After growing some lilies from bulbs last year, he was impressed when they grew to 4ft.

But this year, after feeding it every week, it grew to an impressing 6ft and came out in not just white petals but yellow and pink also.

He told the Leader: "I must admit, I wasn't expecting it to grow this high.

"Everyone is dumbfounded. I have some lilies here that have only grown to 2ft, but 6ft is pretty impressive.

"I love gardening, always have done. I have a greenhouse and everyone is always saying how lovely my front garden is and how nice the hanging baskets are.

"I'm retired now and I lost my wife last year so this keeps me going.

"I love lilies and begonias. My garden is array with them.

"When you want something to look nice, you have to nurture them and feed them water every day. I have cucumbers here that have grown to 18 inches and tomatoes, you have to be dedicated.

"If people can get pleasure and smile from looking at my lily or any of my plants as much as I do then that's great."

The Leader previously reported that a Buckley couple's tall sunflower leaves passers by speechless at a staggering 12ft tall.
