WREXHAM AFC fans are no doubt still adjusting to the stunning news that two Hollywood stars are looking to purchase their club.

Last night, the Wrexham Supporters Trust confirmed the two “high profile investors interested in the club are Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Canadian superstar Ryan Reynolds is an actor, writer, producer and business entrepreneur best-known for his portrayal of Marvel comic book anti-hero Deadpool in two blockbuster movies.

Rob McElhenney is an American actor, director, producer and screenwriter, best known as the creator, producer and star of cult comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

A Trust spokemsan said: "In due course, Mr. McElhenney and Mr. Reynolds will put forward their vision for Wrexham AFC and proposal for members to vote on at a second Special General Meeting."

Undoubtedly, the pair are the most famous people to show an interest in the club, but here are some facts you may not have known that make them the ideal buyers for Wrexham.

Five reasons why Ryan and Rob are the perfect investors for Wrexham AFC:

1. Most famous for playing the “Merc with the Mouth” Deadpool, Reynolds can put his money where is mouth is with Forbes listing him has the second highest paid actor in the world. With estimated earnings of $71.5 million in 2020, only Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson earned more this year.

This is in part due to a Netflix deal that saw the Canadian actor headline Six Underground and Red Notice as well as a yet-untitled third film.

2. Reynolds likes a drink. Or rather he has been the face and co-owner of gin brand Aviation American for ten years. The brand was bought by drinks giant Diageo in as part of a package deal reportedly worth £460m.

Perhaps he will acquire a taste for Wrexham Lager.

3. Reynolds is used to going above and beyond for a project he believes in. Reynolds earned a place in the hearts of movie and comic book fans due to the lengths he went to to persuade Hollywood bigwigs to grreenlight the first Deadpool movie. Despite the critical mauling he received after portraying the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds worked with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to adapt the character more faithfully for a spin-off. When “leaked” test footage received rapturous response among fans the film received the green-light from from Fox in 2014 with the movie hitting the screens in 2016.

4. Rob McElhenney is a massive sports fan. He and his wife Kaitlin Olson, who also stars in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, are fans of the Philadelphia Eagles. Rob and Kaitlin took co-star Danny DeVito to Minnesota to cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles in the team's first Super Bowl victory in 2018. Footage from the day was used in an episode of the show.

5. McElenney can get Wrexham's players in shape. Known for dramaticly transforming his body for his role as Mac in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the actor famously gained 50lbs in six months for the show. For a later series, he transformed himself from Fat Mac to Jacked Mac and shared the secret of getting in shape.

He said: “Look, it's not that hard. All you need to do is lift weights six days a week, stop drinking alcohol, don't eat anything after 7pm, don't eat any carbs or sugar at all, in fact just don't eat anything you like, get the personal trainer from Magic Mike, sleep nine hours a night, run three miles a day, and have a studio pay for the whole thing over a six to seven month span. I don't know why everyone's not doing this. It's a super realistic lifestyle and an appropriate body image to compare oneself to.”
