BRYAN HUGHES had no complaints after Wrexham finished a second successive match with 10 men.

Jake Lawlor was shown a straight red card in the 68th minute of Tuesday's 1-0 win against Halifax Town at The Racecourse after the centre-back brought down Tobi Sho-Silva on the edge of the area.

It came three days after Bobby Grant was sent off in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Dover Athletic for violent conduct.

Hughes was unsuccessful in his appeal against Grant's dismissal - the striker began a three-game suspension against Halifax - but he admitted Lawlor deserved his marching orders.

"I think it was a red card, he just beat him for pace," said Hughes.

"If it was our striker doing that, I'd want him to do exactly what their striker did.

"He got across Jake, there was contact and he went down.

"It was disappointing that it came from us on the attack, it was just a long ball but sometimes that happens.

"The biggest thing from me, I was still composed and still thought we had enough in the tank to take the game to Halifax, and we certainly did that.

"On Saturday we sort of consolidated at times; it showed that we learnt from that, especially with the backing of our home fans.

"We went to a 4-3-2 after the sending off, it still gave us a real emphasis in the game and it gave us something to work on to try and get a goal."

Hughes handed a debut to Jazzi Barnum-Bobb and he was delighted with the way the full-back linked up with Harris on the right flank.

"Jazzi had a fantastic debut," said Hughes.

"Him and Mark on that right-hand side were causing all sorts of problems.

"Just the interplay and all the stuff we work on at the training ground on a day to day basis; it was all coming out on show, especially in that first half.

"Every single one of them had fantastic performances and buoyed by a fantastic crowd; what a fantastic atmosphere it was.

"Especially for us to go down to 10 men again, the crowd got right behind us and pushed us all the way, and we got a deserved winner in the end."

Wrexham, who took one point from two away games going into the Halifax clash, kept a first clean sheet of the season at the fourth attempt.

"It was nice to get a clean sheet because we have given away a few silly goals," said Hughes.

"That is not to do with bad defending or whatever, it is just down to circumstances where things have dropped for the opposition at critical times.

"Sometimes that happens and it is how you bounce back, and I thought we bounced back really well.

"If you look at the performance-value of our games this season, we could have won all four but we haven't."
