LUKE SUMMERFIELD has urged no let-up from Wrexham as the top-of-the-table Reds aim to avoid an FA Cup upset this weekend.

Saturday's 3-1 win over Gateshead extended the unbeaten run to nine games and enabled Sam Ricketts' side to take over as National League leaders for the first time since the start of September.

Wrexham visit Weston-super-Mare in the first round of the cup on Sunday and while the National League South strugglers will be fired up to cause a shock, Summerfield wants the Reds to continue their rich vein of form as they target a place in round two.

"Anything can happen in the FA Cup," said Summerfield.

"We have got a lot of momentum with us now with going top of the table, it was a massive thing for us.

"It was a great win against Gateshead and we will take that into Sunday.

"We know if we can carry on playing as well as we have done and carry the form into the FA Cup, we have got a great chance of progressing.

"I've had a few good away draws in the third round and it could be nice to get there but Sunday's the biggest game so we will look forward to that one."

Summerfield insists nothing changes in Wrexham's approach to the game at the Woodspring Stadium.

"Whether it be cup or league, it is no different for us," said Summerfield.

"We know how well we have been doing in the league, it shows with being top of the table at this stage and hopefully that can carry on.

"Obviously Sunday is going to be a different ball game with it being a cup game but we will prepare as we have done for every game year.

"We will look at what Weston can do but we will go into it with a lot of confidence being top of the table and carry on our good form."

Summerfield, sidelined for the previous three games, made his return from injury against Gateshead and he was delighted to be back in the side.

"It was nice to get back in the team, to get back fit was the most important thing," said Summerfield.

"Nice to get back playing and it was nice to finish Saturday night with a big win and top of the table.

"We said that Saturday was the biggest game we have had all year.

"A big home win and knowing if results went for us we could be top of the table.

"It has worked out that way and we are going into Sunday's game with a lot of confidence."

Summer signing Summerfield, who has a double figure number of assists, scooped the man of the match award following another superb performance and he is happy with how things are going at The Racecourse.

"I have really enjoyed my time from day one," added Summerfield.

"The group of lads here are brilliant and the changing room is one of the best I have been with, I couldn't have asked any more from the lads.

"Luckily I have fitted in well, the staff have helped me improve and hopefully I can carry on improving as a player.

"The main thing for me is being part of Wrexham and enjoying my time and anything I can do to help Wrexham succeed and carry this league form on."
