IT’S not every day that Wrexham sign a player who came highly rated by Marcus Rashford.

But that is the case with Reds’ new play-maker Devonte Redmond, who came through the Manchester United ranks with the England ace.

Rewinding the clock back over a decade, Rashford labelled team-mate Redmond as the best player at United, writing: “Dev. Because he has everything a great player needs.”

Redmond, released from Old Trafford last summer, looks back on Rashford’s words with fondness.

“I only saw it when it came out,” said Redmond. “Back then I was a good player! It was good to see he’d said that and it’s good to see him doing well.”

Redmond might not have written it in a report, but he knew Rashford had what it took to reach the very top.

“He’s a good player, obviously, but the thing about him was hard work.

“Not a lot of people see what goes on behind the scenes, but that’s what got him there in the end,” said Redmond.

“He’s reaping the rewards now.”

Also in that age group were Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Axel Tuanzebe, who have played in the Premier League, and Dean Henderson, who helped Sheffield United reach the top-tier.

“Not everyone will go straight to the top and you’ve got to be happy with your journey and take your time,” added Redmond.
