JJ HOOPER has been brought to Wrexham to score goals - but the striker insists he doesn't feel under pressure to deliver the goods.

The 25-year-old has signed a one-year deal at The Racecourse following his release by Grimsby Town, becoming Reds' boss Bryan Hughes' third new signing of the summer.

Having netted 19 goals in 25 appearances during a loan spell at Bromley last season, expectation levels are high that he can reproduce that form for Wrexham, who have lacked a prolific goalscorer, but Hooper isn't fazed.

"I wouldn't say there is pressure on me, obviously I back myself like any player should," said Hooper, who has played in the Football League for Northampton and Port Vale as well as Grimsby.

"There are quality players here, hopefully they can provide for me and I can take the chances.

"Hopefully I can get that first goal early and kick on from there.

"The gaffer mentioned to me the lack of goals last season from a striker and I was very surprised with where Wrexham finished.

"Hopefully I can be that guy that helps the team. I can't wait to put the shirt on and get some goals."

Hooper admits there was interest from clubs in the Football League following his exploits at Bromley.

But everything about a move to Wrexham appealed to the frontman who is eager to help the club clinch promotion back to the league.

"The gaffer didn't really need to sell the club to me," said Hooper. "This is my first time being here, it is a really nice stadium and a really nice pitch, I can't wait to get out there.

"Wrexham is a massive club and shouldn't be in the position that it is in.

"It has got a big fanbase and I can't wait to show what I can do to the fans.

"I appreciate my time at Grimsby and everything they did for me but now I am just focused on Wrexham and helping them try and get back into the Football League.

"There was interest from the league in me but after speaking to the gaffer and the size of the club, I definitely thought Wrexham was the right place for me.

"Everything about Wrexham appealed to me."

Wrexham midfielder Luke Summerfield, who has penned a new one-year deal at The Racecourse, is a former team-mate of Hooper's following their time together at Grimsby.

Hooper revealed he spoke to Summerfield before joining the Reds.

"I am buzzing we finally got it over the line," added Hooper.

"I can't wait to meet the boys. I know a few of them and I can't wait to get started, I am really excited.

"I know Luke from my time at Grimsby.

"I had a little chat with him and he just had positive words to say about the club."
