BRYAN HUGHES insists Wrexham’s “main focus” is on next week’s play-off preliminary round tie.

Harrogate Town visit The Racecourse tomorrow in what could prove to be a dress rehearsal for the opening play-off fixture.

And Hughes has suggested that he could rotate his playing staff in order to keep certain individuals fresh - and keep Harrogate guessing going into midweek should they lock horns for a fifth time this season.

“It’s a strange one,” said Hughes. “We’ve want to win the game, but our main focus is the play-offs, whether that is on Wednesday or Thursday.

“We will sit down and plan. I think it’s important we keep people fresh and ready.

“I’m sure Harrogate are thinking the same sort of things because we could play them this weekend and then again in midweek.

“It could be a tactical battle or it could be a chance for both teams to give players a breather and concentrate on midweek.

“No-one can afford to get any injuries, especially to key players.

“It’s a tricky one. I want to win every game and I want the players to go into the play-offs with confidence, so it would be great to go in with a win against Harrogate, whatever team we play.

“Both teams will want to go out on a high and we will try our best to win the game and take it into next week.

Hughes and Wrexham have received a timely boost ahead of the play-offs with the return to fitness of Brad Walker, the versatile on-loan Shrewsbury man training with the Reds yesterday.

“We’ve had the good news that Brad has come through his fitness programme at Shrewsbury and he’s back with the group,” said Hughes.

“We don’t know how much he can do, but him just being back here is a big bonus for us.”
