BRYAN HUGHES stressed the importance of Wrexham getting back to keeping clean sheets after registering a third successive win.

Wrexham, who have already booked a play-off place, beat Sutton United 1-0 at The Racecourse to stay fourth in the National League, Kieran Kennedy scoring the only goal in the 78th minute.

Although the Reds kept a club record-equalling 26th clean sheet of the season, it was the first shut-out in five outings and Hughes was delighted not to concede a goal as well as the result.

"I think it was a solid performance all the way through the game," said Hughes.

"It was a tough game, which we were expecting. They are physical and they made it difficult at times for us.

"But we ground them down and we always knew set-pieces would be important in both boxes.

"We defended our box really well, defensively we looked solid and then when we get a moment of quality, a good ball into the box, second phase and keeping things alive, a fantastic finish from Kieran to win the game.

"I am delighted for them all and great to get back to clean sheets as well.

"It is important at this stage of the season now that we try and build on things like that, and that is what we will look forward to going forward.

"We have been giving away silly goals, avoidable goals, so I am just trying to change the mentality of the players.

"They are as disappointed as anyone conceding the way we did but now there is a bit more focus, a bit more determination and desire which is a big thing.

"When you are keeping clean sheets you don't lose many games."
