LUKE YOUNG is pleased Wrexham share goals out around the team but the midfielder hopes someone can hit a rich vein of scoring form as the promotion challenge gathers pace.

The Reds go into tomorrow's game against lowly Havant and Waterlooville at Westleigh Park sitting third in the National League, four points behind leaders Solihull Moors with a game in hand.

Although Wrexham are in the mix, the Reds are the lowest scorers in the top-ten with 38 goals from 32 matches, the out of favour Mike Fondop and Rekeil Pyke, whose loan spell has ended, joint leading scorers on five league strikes.

New boss Bryan Hughes has plenty of attacking options at his disposal and Young would like to see a striker go on a run.

"There isn't anybody running away with it goalscoring at the minute," said Young. "Everybody has been chipping in. "Although we have only won the majority of games 1-0, somebody has still got to score that goal.

"It is good that everybody has been chipping in with goals and we are at the top end of the league for a reason; we have got players to put the ball in the back of the net and we have got the determination to keep the ball out at the other end.

"Hopefully we can get a few more chipping in and hopefully get a few more goals up top, and get a couple of the strikers flying.

"They could be scoring goals to keep us at the top of the league."

Stuart Beavon got the only goal as Wrexham beat Dagenham and Redbridge 1-0 on Saturday to give Hughes a winning start to life in the Racecourse hotseat.

Young, who has three league goals this term, had his shot saved and Beavon pounced.

"It was a good cross from James Jennings, I got as much on it as I could with my foot stretching a bit," said Young.

"The keeper pulled off a good save but thankfully right into Bev's path and he smashed it into the back of net.

"It doesn't matter who scores at any stage of the season, it is a team effort at the end of the day.

"It was a hard fought win but I think overall we deserved it."

Hughes is the club's third manager of the season after Graham Barrow and Sam Ricketts but Young insists he has not been fazed by the latest change and is focussed on making it three wins in a row against Havant, who are hovering just above the relegation zone.

"Us as players can't control too much what happens off the pitch, all we can do is concentrate on what we do on the pitch," added Young.

"It has been a bit of a change the last couple of weeks with one manager going and another coming in so close to the day of a game.

"It has been bright since the gaffer came in and it was just a case of trying to get that first win under our belts for him, and carry on that little bit of momentum that we got from the last win.

"Forget who is in charge, we have got the same players we had before.

"We are going to Havant full of confidence. We know it is not going to be easy, they are in a bit of a battle themselves at the bottom, but hopefully we go into the next game off the back of a victory."
