REKEIL PYKE will not play any more part in Wrexham's promotion challenge.

The 21-year-old striker has been re-called from his loan spell by parent club Huddersfield Town.

Although he was scheduled to stay at The Racecourse until the end of the season, the Premier League club have exercised their right to re-call him early.

In his second loan spell with the club, Pyke scored five goals - he was joint top scorer in the league with Mike Fondop - in 22 starts and five substitute appearances.

Pyke's departure is a big blow in Wrexham's push for a top-seven finish.

A hamstring injury sustained in the goalless draw at Barrow on November 27 ruled Pyke out of the busy festive but the fit-again frontman was handed a first start of the year on Saturday and was man of the match as Wrexham beat Maidenhead United 1-0 to end a run of five defeats without a goal.
