TRIPLE jumper Thomas Walley secured another podium spot while competing at the England U20 U23 Championships in Bedford.

The Wrexham athlete (pictured above), who was crowned Welsh triple jump champion earlier this year, took bronze in his latest competitive event.

Walley posted a best distance of 14.26 metres for the U23 men’s bronze, with Sale’s Kevin Metzger (15.17m) and Sheffield’s Jason Dankyi (14.43m) taking gold and silver respectively.

A trio of Wrexham runners savoured further success while competing for North Wales at the British Junior Inter Counties Mountain Championships.

The event, held at Clougha Pike in Lancashire’s Forest of Bowland, saw Eden O’Dea (21:54) place second outright as part of the victorious regional team.

Wrexham clubmate Ifan Oldfield was part of the winning U19M North Wales team, with fellow Wrexham star Sioned Cordiner helping the U19 women to place third.

Emma Crowe impressed for Wrexham at Rhyl’s Runfest 5K as she clocked 18:35 to finish as the W45 North Wales Champion and 13th outright.

Clubmate Mike Robbins was third in the M55 class and 23rd outright in a time of 19:42.

There were fine individual performances from Wrexham AC’s teenagers too at the UK Young Athletes League U13/U15 meeting in Manchester.

Chief among them was Cameron Williams in the U13G section who took 150m gold (21.5 seconds), plus three bronze medals in the 75m (10.7 seconds), long jump (3.89m) and 4x100m relay (1:02.7).

Seren Evans shone in the U13G javelin as she earned second place with a throw of 17.65m, while Lucy Jones took the 800m bronze (2:47.8).

The combined efforts of James Mills (58:50), Darren Rowlands (58.52) and Daniel Weston (58.53) secured Wrexham AC’s victory at Tattenhall’s ‘Tough Team Race’.

Clubmate Joel Gomes was also in solid form, clocking 56:23 to place sixth at the Moel Hebog Fell Race in Beddgelert.

Andy Jones was Wrexham AC’s fastest at the latest Erddig ParkRun, finishing fifth outright in a time of 19:51.

Club-mates Peter Hughes (26:15), Nick Venables (26:27), Karl Moore (28:02), Mike Edwards (34:22), Peter Norman (35:35) and John Tipping (37:31) followed on.

Deeside AC’s Stephen Jolly (21:22) was fourth quickest at Wepre’s ParkRun, where club youngster Orla Kissane (23:08) was 10th.

There was a seventh-place finish for Wrexham’s Gwyn Roberts (21:46) at the Henley Wood ParkRun.

Further afield, Wrexham’s Jacqui Lincoln took on the Krakow ParkRun, finishing in 34:41.

Joshua Evans (8:51) was Wrexham’s fastest youngster at the Alyn Waters Junior 2K ParkRun, placing second.

North Wales athletes visit Wigan for the latest UK Young Athletes League meeting on Sunday, with the Tilston 10K starting at 10.30am.
