Wrexham played host to the latest Welsh Masters Track & Field League meeting where the region's athletes were in fine form.

Stephen Thomas-Spires was a standout performer for Wrexham AC, collecting three golds and one silver for the club.

Dominating the M35 competition, Thomas-Spires triumphed in the 100m (13.7 seconds), 200m (28.4 seconds) and the long jump (3.90 metres) before taking second place in the high jump (1.30 metres).

In the M50 section, Neil Davies took the high jump honours with a clearance of 1.40 metres, while Wrexham's M65 athlete Geoff Ward clinched double gold in the shot put (9.59 metres) and discus (34.06 metres).

Bob Frost set a new Wrexham AC club record in the M70 class, winning the high jump with a clearance of 1.10 metres before winning the javelin event with a season's best 19.33 metres.

Deeside AC gold medal-winners included Dave Stokes (M35 discus - 29.0 metres) and Martin Tucker (M50 javelin - 42.14 metres).

Wrexham AC teenager Eden O'Dea maintained her impressive racing form with victory at the Cheshire County Schools Championships in Warrington.

Competing in the U17W 3,000m, O'Dea topped the rankings with a PB time of 10:17.12 to see off the challenge of second-placed Sale Harriers runner Lara Crawford (10:21.8).

There was a podium finish too for clubmate Thomas Walley at the latest British Athletics League meeting in Leigh.

After placing fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.20 metres, Walley won the senior men's long jump bronze with his best distance of 6.55 metres.

Fellow Wrexham athlete Amy Odunaiya placed fifth at the competition's 200m event with a time of 24.58 seconds.

Joel Gomes was the pick of Wrexham AC's runners at the Deestriders Off Road meeting in Shotton, clocking 27:32 to finish fourth on the five-mile Shotton course.

Following on were clubmates Gwyn Roberts (16th in 32:32) and Richard Westwood (38th in 35:32).

Wrexham man Ryan Davis impressed at The Beast Fell Race in the Maeshafn Hills, completing the undulating 4.5mile course in 37:18 to finish second right.

Davis was followed over the line by clubmates Sioned Cordiner (50:27), Peter Hughes (51:12), Charles Ashley (52:40) and veteran runner Peter Norman (1:44:00).

Sean Merryweather topped the rankings at the latest Erddig ParkRun, rounding the 5k course in just 17:43.

Joining him among the top 10 finishers were Wrexham clubmates Harvey Davis (third in 19:25), Andy Jones (fourth in 19:43), and Robert Miles (seventh in 20:41).

Buckley Runners' David Jones (21:41) was 10th, placing just ahead of Wrexham man Peter Hughes (21:44) in 11th.

Deesider Stephen Jolly (21:36) was third fastest at Wepre ParkRun, placing ahead of Wrexham's Mike Robbins (seventh in 22:26) and Deeside youngster Lily Roberts (12th in 24:10).

The Welsh Junior Track & Field Championships will be held in Wrexham this weekend - with the two-day event set for an 11am start on Saturday.

The region's athletes will be in action at the latest Northern Senior League meeting in Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday (11am start).
