NETBALL teams from Deeside produced dominant displays at a recent national Welsh tournament, with each side reaching at least the semi-final stages.

Deeside’s Under-14 DJs and Dominoes teams were joined at the Welsh Interclub tournaments in Bangor by an Under-12 representative side from the area.

Despite going into the tournament as domestic league and finals day winners, the DJs were this time overcome by their Deeside Dominoes counterparts who went on to win the competition.

Both sides recorded perfect starts by winning each of their three First Round games, and while the DJs comfortably overcame Kidwelly 25-4 in the Last 16 stage, the Dominoes were even more convincing in their 41-1 success over Newton Gems.

The DJs then battled past Rhosnesni Raiders to set up a semi-final tie with the Dominoes who beat North Dragons 21-9 in their Quarter Final clash.

But unlike the all-Deeside final at the Interclubs Qualifiers – which the DJs won with an extra time golden goal – it was the Dominoes that came out on top.

In yet another tight game between the pair, the Dominoes fought to an 18-14 win to book their place in the final against Penarth Allstars – who they beat 18-13 to be crowned U14s Welsh National Interclub Champions.

Deeside’s U12s, meanwhile, went into the competition as reigning champions within their peer group, having won the U11s title last season.

The youngsters recorded Round One wins over Bishopton, Llantwit Fardre, Walis Caernarfon, Pengam, and Mini Merlins before falling to a 7-4 defeat to Penarth Allstars which placed the team second in their pool.

An 11-5 win over Holywell put the Deeside U12s into the semi-finals of the tournament, but the team missed out on a place in the final after a 12-5 defeat to Gilfach.

The team battled back from that disappointment, though, to beat Mini Merlins again (10-4) and finish the Welsh Interclubs tournament in third place.
