Llay A enjoyed a Premier Division derby win against neighbours Gresford Village A.

Mark Myles (21-5) and Christian Read (21-8) led the way in a 12-2 success with Stephen Vernon (21-11) replying.

The game between Coed Talon A and Ceiriog Valley ended 7-5 to Valley but Talon took the aggregate 210-202 to draw. Phil Vaughan, Brian Salisbury and Dave Baison all won 21-8 with Craig Davies (21-11) replying.

Cunliffe B and Johnstown chalked up 10-4 wins.

Cunliffe beat Parciau A thanks to Craig Jones 21-6 and Ryland Lewis 21-9 with Gary Hughes 21-10 hitting back.

Kevin Stevenson (21-6) led Johnstown to an away win at Chirk for whom Phil Whitehead and Terry Thompson both won 21-10,

Esclusham A beat Gresford Colliery with Dave Rocky Jones and Rhys Griffiths both winning 21-8. Amanda Nicholas (21-7) was Gresford’s best.

Esclusham B suffered a 9-5 home defeat to Cunliffe A for whom Robin Bennett (21-6) and Neil Hayes (21-10). Craig Thomas (21-12) was Esclusham’s top block.

In Division One, Bradley A made their home green count with a 11-3 win over Ruabon. Mike Seenan (21-5) and Ian Roberts (21-8) were in top form with Mike Whittall (21-14) replying.

Garden Village A saw off Plaskynaston 12-2, Brian Watkins (21-3) and Jake Barlow (21-5) leading the way with Plaskynaston’s best card coming from Natalie Sear (21-16).

There were 9-5 wins for Ponciau Parc A, Gate A and Esclusham C.

Ponciau’s Tony Roberts (21-4) and Delwyn Hughes (21-7) were too good for Coed Talon B for whom Zac Diamond (21-14) hit back.

Gate’s Martin Clifton (21-1) and Ann O’Neil (21-10) played their part in the success against Brymbo A who hit back through Gary Williams (21-5) and father and daughter Terry and Bethany Matthias, who both won 21-14.

Esclusham C got the better of Llay B thanks to Peter Davies (21-2) and 21-5 cards from Alan Hopwood and Selwyn Davies. Colin Hayes (21-8) was Llay’s best.

In Division Two, Ceiriog Valley B overcame Cunliffe C 11-3 thanks to Ron Morris (21-5) and Anthony Morris (21-8) as Jim Clarke (21-12) hit back.

Gresford Village B lost 7-5 against Ellesmere only to take the aggregate 220-187 to draw. Wins for Claire Roughley (21-2) and Mervyn Adams (21-3) proved crucial while Ambrose Mochan (21-13) top scored for the Shropshire side.

Johnstown B beat Gate B 10-4 and their top blocks were Dave Poole (21-8) and Pat Brown (21-9). John Ivor Jones (21-11) replied.

Farndon beat Chirk B 9-5 best cards were Rowland Gell 21-2 Max Wyles21-3 replying for Chirk were Darren Matthews 21-2 David Evans 21-13

Llay C beat Parciau B 9-5 thanks to Dora Pressagh (21-6) and Mark Fleet (21-9) as Kevin Francis (21-3) and Tracy Over (21-8) replied.

The preliminary round ties in the WG Roberts Cup take place tomorrow night while Division Three league starts this weekend.
