PHIL ROBERTS could do nothing to prevent Flint Phoenix B from slipping to a 6-2 defeat at Llanferres A in Division One of the North East Wales Badminton League.

Flint player of the match, Roberts, was in fine form as he joined forces with Zoe Moorcroft at first mixed to get the better of Carys Jones and Figo Man 21/19, 21/14, but he could do little about the overall result.

Rossett A did just enough to see off the challenge of Deeside 5-3 in a match that saw three events go all the way to the wire.

One of those came at first mixed as Deeside's Cerys Brackenbury and Ashley Oxborough beat Simon Lane and Sue Lord 21/14, 19/21, 21/16.

Rossett B were involved in an even closer contest as they drew their Division Two encounter with Mold B 4-4.

Jo Sanderson and Vicky Roberts were among the Rossett winners as they saw off the challenge of Elaine Pierce and Lili Thomas 21/14, 21/12 in the ladies doubles.

Eros continued their rise to the top division with a comfortable success against Holywell A.

Sue Price and Iain Jones came closest to winning a game for hosts Holywell, but were eventually outfought by Heather Astley and Andy Purshouse, who triumphed 21/15, 21/16.

In Division Three, Denbigh B cruised to a 7-1 success over Holywell B, whose only winners were George Hood and John Speed.

Hood and Speed saw off James Comes and Caeron Jones 21/18, 19/21, 21/18 at first men's doubles.

Promotion chasing Llanferres C continued their fine form with an 8-0 whitewashing of hosts Prestatyn B.

In the match of the evening, Moira Bonar and Gareth Davies were able to preserve their side's perfect performance with a hard-fought success against Sarah Jane Wynne and Simon Brennan at third mixed.
