DAN FONT showed his international class with a starring role in Mold A's 5-3 North East Wales Badminton League Division One success at Denbigh A.

Wales ace Font was the star of the evening, combining with Peter Walker, to secure the overall victory at first men's by beating Denbigh duo Iain Lovatt and Steve Aylott 21/19, 21/15.

Llangollen did their chances of avoiding relegation the world of good as they defeated hosts Flint Phoenix B 5-3.

The undefeated Phil Roberts was the star for Phoenix, linking up with Zoe Moorcroft at first mixed to outlast Nik Evans and Jane Jones 17/21, 21/13, 21/17.

Division Two champions elect, Eros, showed no mercy towards Connah's Quay as they secured a whitewash victory.

Only Sarah Burke and Sian Elias looked like winning for Quay, but they were eventually beaten 17/21, 21/16, 21/18 at first ladies by Heather Astley and Sheila Palmer.

Hawarden's bid to avoid relegation received a huge shot in the arm courtesy of an 8-0 whitewashing of a depleted Holywell A.

The undefeated Ellie Wainwright caught the eye as player of the match for Hawarden, partnering Diane Fardoe to a 21/8, 21/4 success over Anne Booth and Sue Price at first ladies.

Denbigh B produced an impressive performance to end Prestatyn A's unbeaten Division Three run by securing a 5-3 away win.

The match of the evening saw Denbigh's Sam Pender and Jane Thomas combine to beat Prestatyn duo Paul Armstrong and Claire Atmore 21/14, 14/21, 24/23 at fourth mixed.

Basement outfit Holywell B were once again a lady short, and that failed to help their quest to beat Flint Phoenix C, who ran out 6-2 victors.

Holywell's men salvaged some pride when both pairs won their events, the combination of George Hood and John Speed particularly impressive on their way to a 21/18, 21/13 success over Chris Travers and Alfie Moorcroft.
