Deeside AC athletes excelled with a string of fine performances at the latest North Wales Senior Cross Country League meeting in Northop.

In the Ladies race, Mia Roberts (U17) came home in first place for the host club, and at only 16 years of age was the youngest ever winner of a North Wales Senior League fixture.

The cumulative results of clubmates Bethan Dowsett (U20) in 7th, Rheagan Edwards (U17) in 11th, Connie James (34th) and Briony Hibbert (86th)meant Deeside took the Ladies team honours on the day and now lead the Division Two league table with just one fixture remaining.

In the U17 men's races Euan Coney posted a fifth place finish, ahead of fellow Deesiders Dan Parkinson and William Wasnidge in sixth and eighth respectively.

Buckley Runners man Elliot Cox performed strongly in the senior men's race as he clocked 27:17 to place fourth in a 157-strong field, ahead of Wrexham runners Salvatore Catarratto (27:35) and Ryan Davis (27:52) in sixth and eighth respectively.

Deesider Lee Jones (28:08) finished ninth on the Coleg Cambria course, where he was followed by Wrexham's Darren Rowlands (28:37) and Buckley pair Jez Brown (28:42) and David White (29:05).

The North Wales Indoor Championships in Deeside yielded golds aplenty for Deeside in the junior categories, with victories for: Thomas Maguire (U15 triple jump -11.39 metres), Alison McLellan (SW long jump 4.56 metres), Toby Lemon (U11B long jump - 3.71 metres and 60m sprint 9.36 seconds), Maddie Jackson U17W 60m hurdles -9.76 metres), Olivia Scrimshaw (U11G 60m sprint - 9.30 seconds).

For Wrexham, Thomas Walley led the way in the senior men's category, bagging long jump gold with a leap of 6.51 metres before winning the pole vault with a clearance of 4.40 metres.

Neil Edwards triumphed in the MM 60m hurdles (12.01 seconds), pole vault (three metres), high jump (1.40 metres) and followed up with three silvers in the 60m sprint, long jump and shot put.

Rhys Jones grabbed a pair of golds in the U20M category, winning the high jump (1.80 metres) and triple jump (11.88 metres).

In the shot put, clubmates Martin Chadwick (8.36 metres) and Matthew Williams (6.45 metres) won silver and bronze respectively.

Gareth Price-Lovell and Evan Williams impressed in the U17M section, winning the 60m sprint (7.22 seconds) and 60m hurdles (12.32 seconds) respectively.

Amanda Broadhurst took the MW shot put gold with her effort of 8.10 metres, while Amanda Cook (9.20 metres) took the triple jump honours.

Ellie Collins was the senior women's shot put champion with an 8.48 metre throw, as Isabelle Collins (9.00 metres) won U20W shot put gold.

Impressive in the junior category too, Wrexham recorded further wins courtesy of Ella Hunter (U17 triple jump - 9.41 metres) and Grace Meredith (U15 long jump - 4.45 metres).

Wrexham's Ryan Davis (19:24) was the fastest finisher at the latest Erddig Park Run, topping the rankings for the third time in a month.

Clubmate Iwan Morris (20:58) was fifth, while John Atkinson (21:07) and Harvey Davis (22:11) were also among the top 10 finishers.

Prolific Wrexham AC athletes Matthew Willis and Eden O'Dea have been rewarded with international call-ups.

Willis and O'Dea will compete for Wales in the U20M and U17W categories respectively at the Celtic & Home International XC next week.
