ACTON became the first team to beat Flint Mountain this season in a superb 5-2 victory that saw them lift the North East Wales League’s Premier Cup.

League champions Flint were dreaming of a five-trophy clean sweep but Acton, who finished runners-up, produced a tremendous display in the final at Mold Alex.

Niall Challinor grabbed a treble to his tally for the season to an incredible 72 goals. Steve Powell and Danny Trow were also on target for Acton, who are pictured with the trophy.

Delighted secretary Pete Callaghan said: “We’re the first team to beat them this season and it’s great to finish the season with a trophy.”

Marc Gunther and Jimmy McGlone replied for Flint while in the Welsh National League where both teams could meet each other next season, Corwen moved closer to the Premier Division title with a 3-2 victory against relegation-threatened Rhostyllen.

Sam Henry netted twice and Joe Williams scored from the spot.

Lee Burney bagged both for Rhostyllen who have been joined on 21 points by Penycae after their 4-2 success over Cefn Albion who hit back through an Alex Williams double.
