QUEEN’S PARK can put a little bit of pressure on Premier Division favourites Corwen tomorrow, writes PHIL JONES.

Corwen, who were surprisingly held 2-2 by neighbours Llanuwchllyn in midweek, are two points clear at the top but don’t have a game.

Dale Davies and Joe Williams were Corwen’s marksmen but Delwyn Jones and Iwan Roberts replied.

Queen’s Park will go top if they beat Penycae at home but boss Dave Evans knows it won’t be easy.

“They have had some impressive results of late and have been involved in a number of high scoring games so we will not be taking them lightly,” he said.

“We will be missing centre back Matty Williams and new signing Sean Dodd but Will Evans will be itching to get back into the starting 11 and James Gregory is due a start after an impressive performance against Chirk.”

Penycae welcome back full back Calyn Spencer while Cefn Albion need a confidence-boosting win when they visit Saltney Town.

A week ago they were unbeaten in 2019 but two defeats on the trot is hardly the best of preparations heading into next Saturday’s Welsh Trophy Final.

They lost 4-2 to Chirk AAA on Tuesday and that came after a 4-1 home mauling by Mold Alex a week ago. Kien Morris was injured in the defeat to Chirk while Jamie Ffoulkes, who scored in the Chirk defeat, is suspended for the trip to Sandy Lane after being sent off in the same game. Alex Williams was Cefn’s other scorer.

Town will be looking to make it three wins in a row to maintain their hopes of finishing in the top five. Strikers Rabih Jumaa and Jake Gibbons will be hoping for starts after changing the game coming on as subs in last week’s 6-1 thrashing of Brickfield Rangers.

Chirk new boys Tom Belton and Harri Gould face their old club Brickfield Rangers at Holyhead Road. Wrexham FC youth player Lewis Parry has signed for Brickfield for the rest of the season and looks set to start.

The league’s top scorer Louie Middlehurst, Gould, Sam Nash and an own goal earned Chirk three points against Cefn.

FC Nomads host Hawarden Rangers who have Carlton Mitchell and Danny Wynne available. Lewis Cunliffe and Chad Shelbourne should also return but Ellis Jones, Ben Jones and Tom Bridges are out.

Rhos Aelwyd entertain Mold Alex and Jake Simms returns but Ryan Jenkins faces a late fitness test.

Mold boss Mike Cunningham revealed: “Kevin Day is a slight doubt with a hamstring problem and almost certain to miss out are Adam Renshaw and Matty Roberts.

“Matty Lewis looks set to miss out but we hope to recall Aled Reece, Terry Pughe and Dave Bryan.”

In the Reserves and Colts Division, Penycae beat Rhos Aelwyd 4-1 and on target were Kian Davies (2), Josh Millington and Ben Richards all after Steff Williams had put Rhos ahead.

Brymbo’s Jamie Cummins (2), Zac Clarke and Ryan Clarke scored in 4-0 win over Llay while Cefn Mawr Rangers and Coedpoeth United drew 4-4.

Reserves Division: Brickfield v Queen’s Park; Corwen v Buckley.

Reserves and Colts Division: Holywell v Coedpoeth; Llangollen v Cefn Alb; Overton v New Brighton; Penycae v Rhydymwyn; Ruthin v Rhos Aelwyd.
