AN IMPRESSIVE first half performance helped Flint Town United clinch a 2-0 home victory over Guilsfield.

The Silkmen took a step nearer to consolidating a runners-up spot after goals from Mark Cadwallader (left) and Dylan Allshorn wrapped up their 16th win of the campaign.

The hosts went ahead on 19 minutes when Andy Brown outpaced the Guils defence and delivered a pinpoint cross to the far post, that Cadwallader comfortably headed home.

Their dominance was further rewarded 10 minutes later when Allshorn slotted home from Cadwallader’s measured delivery into the box.

Any hopes of a Guils fightback were effectively ended on the stroke of half time when Callum Bromley was sent off for elbowing Flint’s Ged Kinsella.

A cagier second half ensued, with the 10-man visitors from mid-Wales showing impressive resilience to prevent Flint from adding to their tally.

Flint boss Niall McGuinness said: “It was a really pleasing first half performance where we dominated.

“The players stuck to their gameplan and it paid off. It’s another clean sheet too and a win that takes us nearer to securing that second spot in the table.”

Buckley Town boss Dan Moore said the result took precedence over his side’s performance in their 1-0 win at Denbigh Town.

Shaun Tinsley’s 27th minute volley proved decisive as the Bucks maintained their push for an impressive top-six finish this term.

In a game low on quality, Moore feels his side now know what it takes to grind out victories in the division.

He said: “It was a scrappy game and we didn’t really play very well, except for a decent spell in the first half in which we probably should have got ourselves further ahead.

“I probably expected us to create a little bit more because the second half fizzled out a bit, but I thought defensively we coped very well with the pressure Denbigh put us under.

“We had to defend five or six corners at the end of the game and I thought we coped really with that and did enough to grind out the three points.”

Gary Taylor-Fletcher’s Bangor City edged a thrilling 4-3 win over rivals Rhyl on Friday while Conwy Borough drew 1-1 with Ruthin Town, and Prestatyn Town came from behind to win 2-1 at Llanrhaeadr.
