WREXHAM squandered the lead as West Brom came from behind to win 2-1 at The Racecourse.
There was a lack of intensity and quality from Wrexham in the first hour but Kieffer Moore scored a stunning goal to put the Reds ahead in the 64th minute.
But two late goals meant Phil Parkinson's side suffered a third defeat of the Championship season.
With 10 games gone, the Reds are 16th with 11 points having won twice and picked up five draws.
There was a boost for Parkinson with Callum Doyle, who missed Saturday's 1-1 draw at Derby with a groin problem, passed fit and named in the starting XI, although another seven players were out injured.
He made three changes from the side which made the team for the stalemate, with Doyle, George Dobson and Ollie Rathbone taking over from Joe Worrall, Lewis O'Brien and Josh Windass, who hobbled off at Pride Park and joins the walking wounded.
First-year pro Sammy Chesworth, who was an unused substitute on Saturday after receiving his first senior call-up, was again on the bench.
Wrexham had the first sight of goal but Dobson's fourth minute drive following Issa Kabore's pass was straight at keeper Max O'Leary.
Although both sides cancelled each other out, the Reds carved out half-chances.
A stretching Moore headed over Ben Whiteman's corner and the same combination linked up again with the Wales international's header going narrowly wide.
At the other end, Anthony Patterson was quick off his line to gather at the feet of Barney Stewart following a quick Baggies break.
Moore was in the thick of the action and his header from Dobson's free-kick was straight into O'Leary's hands.
There was a rare, decent chance moments before the break but Moore's header from Whiteman's corner was parried on the line by O'Leary, the ball struck Issac Price and the goalkeeper was fouled as he went to gather.
West Brom had the first chance of the second half and it was a good one as Brayann Pereira sent in a cross and Price's volley was straight at Patterson.
The Baggies also went close when George Campbell's header from Callum Styles' corner struck the top of the crossbar.
However, Wrexham took the lead in the 65th minute.
This game needed a spark and it came from Moore who found the top corner with a brilliant 25 yard strike following Rathbone's pass.
The Baggies responded with Styles' powerful effort which was heading in but Zak Vyner managed to head over the bar.
However, the visitors levelled in the 79th minute.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan's shot was blocked but the ball fell into the path of Price who fired past Patterson.
It got worse for Wrexham as the Baggies went 2-1 up with six minutes to go following a quick break.
Price delivered a cross from the right which was turned home by Aune Heggebo, and that sealed victory for the Baggies who are up to fourth place.
