DEESIDE DRAGONS have warmed up for the new season with a pair of hard-fought victories in challenge matches.
There was a double-header against Telford Tigers for Deeside to contend with ahead of the start of the Division One North campaign.
Mike Clancy’s side won 5-2 in the away opener and they followed this up with a 4-1 triumph at Deeside Leisure Centre.
The away game saw Dragons’ debuts for summer signings Curtis Warburton (pictured), Kane Morin and Lewis Baldwin, as well as call-ups for D2 Dragons players Lewis Edward and Ben Roscoe. Noah Percival, Matty Barlow, Damarni James, Colin Cromie and Ross Kennedy saw Deeside through to their victory.
Dragons outshot Telford 48-32 over the 60 minutes and new netminder Warburton put in an impressive display, keeping out all 10 of the shots that he faced before handing over to Jace Gledhill halfway through the game.
Following a goalless first period to the return contest, the deadlock was eventually broken with a Cromie goal 70 seconds into the second period.
Cromie doubled the lead, before Telford pulled one back on 27 minutes.
Summer signing Ryan Wardell took over in goal from Warburton at the halfway stage to make his debut and he recorded a half “shut out”. James and Theo Malone added further goals.
