CHESTER slipped to a second consecutive home defeat as Merthyr Town claimed a 1-0 win at the Deva Stadium.
Chances were few and far between in the initial stages, with Dan Ward firing over in the Blues’ first effort after a quarter-of-an-hour.
Ward and Connor Woods were unable to make the most of opportunities as the half developed, the latter putting his shot wide of the target. Jake Griffin was narrowly off target with his header from Woods’ corner and a minute before the break, Lee Lucas gave Merthyr the lead.
After Merthyr made a bright start to the second half, Chester’s Sam Reed forced a save from keeper Jamie Cogman.
The Blues were inches away from a leveller in the 58th minute when Reed’s effort was tipped against the crossbar by Cogman.

There will be an away day when Chester begin their FA Cup tilt later this month.
Phil Parkinson will take his side to Lower Breck for a second qualifying round tie on September 19. Lower Breck play in the same league as Vauxhall Motors, who were knocked out of the competition in a 2-0 home defeat by Dunston at the weekend.
