NOTHING less then victories will do for Brymbo and Gwersyllt Park as the Premier Division campaign approaches its end.
Triumphs are required for differing reasons, with Brymbo vying with St Asaph to claim the title, while Park are seeking positive outcomes in their efforts to stave off relegation.
It still remains all to play for in both battles, on the back of last weekend’s disappointing washout in the region.
Second-placed Brymbo are just a point behind the pace being set by the front-running Saints, while Gwersyllt are 12 points adrift of safety.
Brymbo were scheduled to take on Northop last time out, but skipper Jason Underwood admitted: “We waited as long as we could, but common sense prevailed in the end.”
So, focus switches to tomorrow’s clash with third-placed Menai Bridge, which will be Brymbo’s final home clash of the summer.
Theoretically, Bridge are still in the mix for the title, but they would require a collapse of epic proportions from the teams above them to clinch an unlikely crown.
“We have got two cup finals to go and we need to win both to give us an opportunity,” stressed Underwood.
“It’s Menai this weekend and they’re always a tough team. We will concentrate on what we can do. Control the controllables and if we do that, we give ourselves the best opportunity to win.”
St Asaph know that two more wins will seal things and they will be hoping one of them arrives when they host basement side Hawarden Park.
One of three teams could join Park in suffering relegation.
In this unwanted box seat are Gwersyllt Park, who are all set for a trip to fourth-placed Mochdre.
Park skipper Jamie Griffiths said: “It’s frustrating, but we have just got to hope and pray for good weather.
“Can we go and do the unexpected? We can go and win and, unfortunately, at this stage, you’re relying on other people to help you.
“We will keep fighting until the end and what will be, will be.
“We have put ourselves in this situation and we will keep going until the end.”
A big miss for Park this summer has been the bowling unavailability of Iroshan De Silva.
De Silva bagged a Premier Division best 54 wickets last summer, but he hasn’t bowled since early August and he has 25 wickets this season.
Mold are the team immediately above Gwersyllt in the standings and they would be on the verge of safety if they can get the better of visitors Northop.
Bangor make the trip to Denbigh while Llandudno will wrap up the Division One title if they can defeat visitors Conwy tomorrow.
The battle for second place remains a competitive one, although Pontblyddyn are in a strong position heading into their home clash with Halkyn.
Third-placed Connah’s Quay make the trek to Bangor Seconds and Buckley entertain Abergele.
Gresford head to Northop Seconds and Bethesda welcome Mochdre Seconds.
