South Wales base for Crusaders' reserves from next season

This team will be based in South Wales, building upon the existing infrastructure and player-development pathway created through the Wales U19s programme.

Crusaders’ CEO Ben Evans told the club’s website: “We can help fill that void by introducing a reserve side and creating a clear pathway for Welsh-born players to progress towards playing in the Championship.

“We recognise that there is currently a significant gap between under-19s rugby and the Championship.

“This reserve side will allow players to remain within our system, continue their development and stay firmly on our radar.

“By using the excellent resources and infrastructure already in place in South Wales, we can help develop more homegrown Welsh players and provide them with a genuine opportunity to progress within the professional game.”

Club chairman Jamie El-Kaleh added: “This is a hugely important step for the future of rugby league in Wales. We want to represent and provide opportunities for players from across the whole country.”
