CHARLTON ATHLETIC defender Conor Coady has been discharged from hospital following a head injury sustained in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Coady, who is on loan at Charlton from Championship rivals Wrexham until the end of the season, was knocked unconscious after being struck by Tom Ince’s shot as the Championship match moved into second-half stoppage time

The former England international, 33, was stretchered off and taken to a local hospital, where he underwent a series of scans before being given the all-clear and discharged yesterday evening.

Charlton boss Nathan Jones said immediately after the game: “He lost consciousness and we are just assessing it now. He has gone off to hospital, so hopefully he will be okay.

“They are really good mates, which is the ironic thing. You ask defenders to put their bodies on the line and he literally did that. It is a ball, at the end of the day, it’s not like he has been hit by a boxer.

Hopefully it is just precaution, he recovers and he can be with his family tonight.”

Charlton's medical staff will continue to monitor Coady in line with the appropriate protocols.

Coady joined Wrexham days before the 2025-26 campaign kicked off, signing from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal, with the option of an additional year,

However, he found opportunities limited during his time in north Wales and joined Charlton on loan in Charlton.
