Wrexham push title-chasing Pwllheli all the way in key clash

The Gwynedd outfit are one of three sides still looking to claim the title, but these hopes were hanging by a thread when they trailed Wrexham 13-5 with less than half-an-hour remaining.

Demonstrating their title credentials, though, Pwllheli grabbed three converted tries to claim a 26-13 success.

Wrexham are seeking a top-four finish this season and their tries came from Rhys Davies and Lloyd Roberts, while Jacob Hughes kicked a penalty.

Retaining their spot at the head of the rankings are Nant Conwy, who got the better of fourth-placed Bala 45-18.

Caernarfon, in second, prevailed 38-5 at Bethesda and Llandudno lost out 36-19 at Ruthin.

Llangefni eased to a 59-19 outcome against Bethesda and COBRA defeated Colwyn Bay 29-12.

Newtown strengthened their hopes of a top-two Division Two North finish with their 29-14 win at Dolgellau.

Third-placed Teirw Nant Conwy beat Machynlleth 49-14 and Abergele pipped Bro Ffestiniog 11-10.

The race for the title is done and dusted, with unbeaten Mold a mammoth 28 points in the clear.

In the big Division Three North East derby, Wrexham Athletic beat Mold Athletic 32-21 while title favourites COBRA Athletic just about got the better of Flint 32-28 and Shotton Steel won 36-19 at Bro Gwernant.

There was Valentine’s Day heartbreak for RGC.

The North Walians were pipped 29-26 at Newport in Pool A of the Super Rygbi Cymru Cup.

Tudur Jones and Pedr Jones grabbed RGC’s tries, while Billy McBryde (pictured) kicked 16 points. Harri Ackerman’s late converted try would prove crucial to Newport’s win.

It’s still all to play for as far as RGC’s hopes of achieving a spot in the semi-finals are concerned.

The top-two in the group will make sure of reaching the last-four and third-placed RGC are just a point behind Pontypool.

Newport are sitting pretty at the head of the rankings with 18 points, a comfortable 10 clear of their nearest challengers.

Carmarthen Quins beat Cardiff 15-7 in the other tie, while in Pool B, Ebbw Vale defeated Bridgend 28-21 and Aberavon lost 28-22 versus Swansea.
