FORMER RGC player Sam Wainwright has been called up to Wales’ squad for this year’s Six Nations.
Bodelwyddan-born Wainwright is in the 38-strong group after the withdrawl of Keiron Assiratti due to a calf problem.
“It’s obviously disappointing for Keiron, but that gives an opportunity for Sam and we’re delighted for him to join the group,” Wales head coach Steve Tandy said.
Having played for Rhyl and RGC during his formative years, Wainwright was signed by Saracens in May 2019 and he made his English top flight bow in September of that year.
Wainwright, who made two appearances with Wales U20s to start his international career, joined Scarlets in 2022.
He received his first call-up to the senior Wales side in June 2022, added to the squad for the summer tour to South Africa.
Wainwright came off the bench in the second test of that series to make his debut.
Wales open their Six Nations against England at Allianz Stadium on February 7, when they will be looking for their first victory in the tournament since 2023.
