THERE was a post-Christmas cracker as RGC were edged out in a high-scoring Super Rygbi Cymru clash with Newport.
A week after the black-and-ambers had prevailed 54-31 on home turf, they repeated the trick via a 40-34 outcome in the Colwyn Bay return.
In front of a bumper crowd of over 1,400, RGC managed to pick up two bonus points from their efforts.
Patrick Nelson, James Brown, Caio Parry and Dion Jones scored the RGC tries on the day. All of these were converted by Billy McBryde, who also kicked a couple of first half penalties for the north Wales side.
RGC did hold a slender advantage at the interval, but Newport had the better of the second half as they went on to record their seventh success of the season.
This was RGC’s ninth defeat of the campaign and they sit seventh in the standings heading into the new year.
Leading the way are Ebbw Vale, who made sure of a 52-38 triumph at Pontypool.
Other results: Llandovery 12 Carmarthen 22; Aberavon 21 Swansea 31; Bridgend 10 Cardiff 33.
