PHIL PARKINSON has been dealt a blow with the news that Josh Windass will be out of action for up to six weeks.

Summer signing Windass pulled up with a hamstring injury in the first half of Saturday's 3-2 defeat against West Brom at The Racecourse and was immediately taken off.

The attacking midfielder has made an impressive start to the Championship campaign.

He put Wrexham ahead from the penalty spot and hit the bar in the 2-1 defeat at Southampton on the opening day but has been ruled out for four to six weeks.

The only consolation for Parkinson is that after Saturday's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday and the trip to Millwall on August 30, Wrexham don't have a league game for a fortnight because of the international break.

That gives Windass more time and he could be closing in on a return when the Reds entertain Queen’s Park Rangers at The Racecourse on September 13.

"Josh is going to be out for four to six weeks with his hamstring," said Parkinson.

"Obviously it's a blow because he's been great for us.

"Even in the first half hour against West Brom he was really good and obviously down at Southampton.

"It is really frustrating for him and for us but it's part and parcel of football and we've got to deal with it.

"With the international break coming up, by the time that's finished he won't be far off."

Ollie Rathbone, Liberato Cacace, Jay Rodriguez, George Thomason and Andy Cannon are also sidelined but Parkinson insists Wrexham will cope with the injuries.

"George is making progress and Libby's making good progress," he added. "Obviously Jay and Andy are longer term.

"We've had a bit of disruption but it's the same at other clubs.

"It's just making make sure we don't get too down about that and deal with it because we've got good players ready to step in.

"The depth of the squad is key."
