PHIL PARKINSON stressed the importance of signing young players to be part of Wrexham's exciting journey but he believes also adding experience gives him the perfect mix for the promotion push.
The Reds' boss completed three new signings during the winter transfer window with winger Ryan Longman, 24, arriving from Hull City and striker Sam Smith, 26, joining from Reading.
The third addition is Jay Rodriguez, another frontman recruited from Burnley and slightly older at the age of 35.
Having the right blend of youth and experience is important to Parkinson as Wrexham, currently third in League One, challenge for an unprecedented third promotion in a row.
"What we've tried to do is get good young players in the building," he said.
"We have got senior players like we've brought Jay in as well and it's great to have senior lads around who set the tone on the training pitch for us.
"But we've got a good core of young players coming through and I think that's important, none more so than Harry Ashfield."
Young professional Ashfield, who hails from Wrexham and came through the ranks at his home-town club, scored his first senior goal in the 4-1 win at Port Vale which secured an EFL Trophy quarter-final tie at home to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.
Longman set-up the 18-year-old and he also had the assist for Elliot Lee's goal.
The new recruit impressed on the right-wing, making his first start for the club in place of Ryan Barnett who has been in excellent form all season.
When asked whether he has a dilemma choosing between Longman and Barnett in that position, Parkinson added: "Longy can play on the left as well."
