FORMER Wrexham and Chester striker Marc Williams had a sense of timing as he helped to move Caernarfon Town to within 90 minutes of qualifying for Europe.
Penalties looked to be the likely outcome as the Canaries and Cardiff Met were tied at 0-0 with time running out in their Cymru Premier European play-off semi-final at The Oval.
However, Williams broke the deadlock three minutes from time and a goal from former Airbus striker Adam Davies in stoppage time sealed a 2-0 win.
Williams told S4C’s Sgorio: “It felt amazing and they’re the reasons I play.
“You know, I want to kind of give everything I’ve got, whether it’s heading, tackling, you know, everything for this football club and to my family, my partner, everyone who’s watching, it hasn’t been an easy road my career and I look back now and I put the shirt on and I enjoy it.
“It’s a case of just giving something back for maybe the things I got wrong.”
Caernarfon will be at home again for this Saturday’s play-off final after Penybont thrashed hosts Newtown 5-0 in their last-four showdown.
Chris Venables and Gabriel Kircough both netted twice for Rhys Griffiths’ side.
Michael Wilde (pictured below) has been appointed as Colwyn Bay’s new manager.
The striker, who left Connah’s Quay Nomads at the end of the campaign, has described his first managerial role as “an exciting project” and he replaces Steve Evans at the helm.
Former Tranmere Rovers, Chester, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Flint Town United player Danny Harrison will be Wilde’s assistant.
The new Bay management team said in a statement: “We are delighted to be offered this opportunity as we both feel this is perfect timing to progress onto the next stage of our footballing journey.
“This is an exciting project and the hard work starts now to assemble a squad that the club and fans can really get behind.”
Wilde has had a distinguished playing career in the Cymru Premier with The New Saints, Flint Town United and Connah’s Quay Nomads.
The 40-year-old has also played in the English system with Fleetwood Town, Halifax Town and Chester.
Wilde is the Cymru Premier’s third highest top scorer of all time with 235 goals and has won nine Cymru Premier titles, the Welsh Cup six times and the League Cup on five occasions.
He made his last appearance for Nomads in their 2-1 Welsh Cup final win over The New Saints earlier this month.
