MORE success in the USA has been claimed by a Wrexham athlete.

Wrexham AAC’s Amber Simpson won the senior women’s hammer event with an effort of 66.29-metres at the Drake Relays at Des Moines, Iowa.

Two Wrexham members made their mark at the youth development league meeting at Trafford.

In the under-17 women’s section, Lucy Jones (pictured below) won the triple jump with a personal best of 10.23-metres and she was third in the 300-metres, with another personal best of 42.93. She was also part of the North Wales team that came home third in the 4x300m relay.

Meanwhile, in the under-20 men’s age group, Mannie Thomas was fourth in the 100-metres (11.86) and third in the B 200-metres (23.95).

A trio of Wrexham racers took part n the Mid Cheshire 5k, spear-headed by Connor Rogers, who was 62nd in 15.26. He was followed by James Yarwood (165th in 16.14) and Richard Westwood (561st in 20.26).

Turning to the Red Kite trail challenge and Ifan Oldfield clocked 1-41.53 for 12th spot in the half-marathon. Clubmate Charles Ashley crossed the line 86th in 3-12.59, while Evie and Grace Hughes competed in junior races, with both of them finishing fourth.

Evie ran 27.34 in the under-16 girls’ 5k, with Grace clocking 16.29 in the under-14 girls’ 3k race.

Sunday was the inaugural junior parkrun at Wepre, with 61 young athletes taking part and a strong turnout of Deestriders to volunteer at their home event.

Deestriders got out and about to do several parkruns themselves, with Sarah Monteith (29.14) competing in Birkenhead, while Stewart McElmeel (21.16) and Lindsey McElmeel (28.32) raced at Cheltenham.

There were personal bests for Corinne Wardle (31.53) and Elaine Thomson (32.00) in Chester, where Max Dowell crossed the line in 20.47.

Continuing the personal best theme was Donna Griffiths, who achieved 22.58 at Prestatyn.

For Wrexham AAC, Christian Smith (17.46) crossed the line third at Hackney, with Glyn Wise (20.12) ninth at Macclesfield, while Connor Rogers (16.44) triumphed in Aberystwyth, with Mark Hughes 23rd in 23.40.

Over at Llangollen Steve Jones was 11th in 22.27, with Stephen Walker clocking 46.47 for 80th and Mike Robbins (24.21) was 12th at the Wepre event.

Debbie Dodd (33.30) competed at Chester and Macey Quick (27.54) raced at Delamere, while Tony Forster (eighth in 22.04) was the leading Wrexham competitor at Erddig.
