FLINT TOWN UNITED chairman Darryl Williams has welcomed the £6m investment into the Welsh football’s elite league.

Flint will be back in the Cymru Premier League next season and their return comes in a week the Football Association of Wales announced plans to revamp what was the old League of Wales.

More clubs will join the league where the focus will be on Friday night matches and the introduction of video assistant refereeing (VAR).

“The investment is pleasing and it’s a good time to be heading back into the top league,” said Williams, who is pictured above celebrating promotion with the Flint players.

“There will be challenges, I’m sure. I like 3pm kick-offs on a Saturday but we’ll see how the Friday night fixtures work.

“Our fanbase has more than doubled in the past 12 months and the football we have played this season has been great to watch.”

Ex-Wrexham midfielder Lee Fowler is the man in charge at The Essity Stadium and Williams added: “Lee has been great for this club. He’s such a solid guy.”

Flint, who have been promoted ahead of Holywell Town, whose ground did not meet FAW criteria, will hold their presentation night at the ground’s social club on Saturday (6.30pm start).
