FRIDAY nights will be alright for playing when new a Football Association of Wales strategy comes into force for the 2026-27 top flight season - and VAR is set to be introduced into the Cymru Premier League.

The FAW has introduced an ambitious strategy aimed at improving the Cymru Premier League on and off the pitch.

Details of the new league structure for 2026-27 will be announced in September and they will culminate in a transition to Friday night football. The strategy will also introduce VAR Light into the league.

The FAW is also looking at strengthening league and club administration as part of the new strategy.

From the league administration point of view, this will include workforce development and governance, which involves recruiting a dedicated elite club development manager and investing in content creation to improve operational efficiency.

Meanwhile, over a million Euros are to be invested to elevate the administrative standards of Cymru Premier clubs, which will include providing grants for operational roles, assisting with legal structures and implementing new training programmes to foster club development.

As far as further investment is concerned, a million Euros will be directed towards bolstering the profile and brand of the Cymru Premier League domestically and internationally. This will involve defining a new brand vision, expanding digital content and supporting clubs in enhancing their individual brands.

One million Euros will also be dedicated to improving club facilities, with a focus on enhancing matchday experiences and stadium image.

In addition, an investment of 860,000 Euros will be allocated to elevate the on-field product, including professional contracts for players, a review of the loan system, greater contact time with players, the introduction of VAR Light and enhanced support programmes for clubs in European competitions.

The strategy also says efforts to boost commercial partnerships and revenue streams will be prioritised, aiming to secure centralised purchasing and increase broadcasting income.
