PHIL PARKINSON wants to sort out the future of out of contract players "as soon as we can" but says the club must make the "right decisions" before announcing the retained list.

Wrexham have clinched automatic promotion to League One and face champions Stockport County at The Racecourse on Saturday in the final game of the season.

A number of players are out of contract this summer including goalkeepers Mark Howard and Rob Lainton, defenders Callum McFadzean, Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe, utility man James McClean and midfielder Luke Young - the longest serving player in the squad.

"I have had talks with Shaun Harvey and will have further chats this week with Shaun and the owners about how we are going to approach everything," said Parkinson.

"There are a lot of players out of contract.

"There are some decisions to be made about players and it is about sitting down as staff and making the right ones.

"Of course you have got to let people know about their futures as soon as we can but equally, we want to make the right decisions and that is what we intend to do.

"We will have further talks this week and made the decisions we feel are right for the individual and for the team going forward."

Former Republic of Ireland international McClean, who celebrated his 35th birthday yesterday, was replaced at the interval on Saturday as Wrexham beat play-off contenders Crewe Alexandra 3-0 at Gresty Road in their penultimate League Two fixture.

Tensions boiled over just before half-time when Aaron Rowe caught McClean with a leading arm and the wing-back reacted angrily.

Both players were booked by referee Seb Stockbridge and Parkinson took McClean off because he didn't want to risk him getting sent off with a top-three finish guaranteed.

"There was a flare-up and we were 2-0 up," added the Reds' boss.

"James is pretty good at managing himself when he is on a yellow but I just thought it was the right call."
