CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS pushed champions The New Saints all the way before falling to a 2-0 defeat in their final league game of the season.

Two goals in the closing few minutes made sure the Saints finished the league campaign undefeated, while Neil Gibson’s visitors just came up short in their quest for a point.

Meetings between the clubs this season have produced a number of goals - mostly for the Saints.

In four previous wins over Quay so far this campaign, Craig Harrison’s side had netted 17 goals in the process, but they could find no way through the defence during the first half of yesterday’s contest at Park Hall.

Jordan Davies, in his last league match for Quay, and Harry Franklin had efforts blocked by Chris Marriott and Danny Davies as Neil Gibson’s side sought the opener.

Saints also looked to make their mark and Brad Young did have the ball in the back of Quay’s net, but this goal was ruled out for a hand-ball during the build-up.

Skipper John Disney marked his 250th competitive start for Quay with a booking following a foul on Declan McManus, while Michael Wilde came on for his final league appearance for the side when he replaced Kenny.

Saints looked to press and Kai Edwards did well to block Rory Holden’s effort, while the hosts introduced Adrian Cieslewicz off the bench with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

The breakthrough came in the 89th minute when Cieslewicz found the target after cutting in from the right. Kai Edwards’ own goal in stoppage time sealed Saints’ success.

Caernarfon Town and Bala Town played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Zack Clarke and Louis Lloyd netted for the Canaries, with Naim Arsan and Joe Malkin on target for Bala, who had keeper Kelland Absalom sent off early in the second half.

Dominic Smith, Aaron Williams and Callum Roberts made sure of Newtown’s 3-1 verdict at Cardiff Met, who hit back via Sam Jones.

Cardiff Met went into their final game at home to Newtown having been docked three points by the Football Association of Wales.

“An Appeals Panel of the Football Association of Wales (FAW) has met to consider the two charges against Cardiff Met University FC for Disciplinary Offences for the alleged breaches of FAW Rule 61(B) and Cymru Premier Rule 14.1,” read an FAW statement.

“It was alleged that the Club fielded an ineligible player in their JD Cymru Premier fixture against Bala Town FC on 3 February 2024.

“Both charges were found proven and in line with Cymru Premier Rule 14.1, the Club are deducted three points from its playing record in the Cymru Premier for season 2023/24 with immediate effect. “

Aberystwyth Town preserved their top flight status with a 3-0 win over Pontypridd, who will be relegated. Louis Bradford, Steffan Davies and David Evans got the goals.

Colwyn Bay’s are also down despite their 1-0 win at home to Barry. Alex Downes netted late on in front of more than 900 at Llanelian Road.

Penybont claimed a European play-offs berth with their 1-0 win over Haverfordwest, sealed by Chris Venables’ first half strike.
