FLINT TOWN UNITED have finished their season with a stunning 78 points, but it looks likely they’ll end up just short in their efforts to claim the title.

The Silkmen concluded their league campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Denbigh Town, while Holywell Town moved themselves to within a point of claiming the title courtesy of a 3-0 triumph away to Porthmadog.

This leaves Johnny Haseldin’s Wellmen level on points with Flint and they will spark a title-winning party if they can pick up at least a point from Wednesday’s home clash with bottom-of-the-table Llanidloes Town.

Holywell players warmed-up donning t-shirts showing a picture of supporter Colin Oliver, who tragically passed away after falling ill during last Tuesday’s abandoned match against Llanidloes.

The scoring was opened at Y Traeth after 20 minutes as good work by Jamie Breese set up Danny Andrews to slot into the corner of the net.

When Andrews was fouled in the box midway through the second period, the prolific Breese made it 2-0.. Then, in stoppage time, Ilan ap Gareth rounded off the scoring with a great solo goal for his first Holywell strike in 15 months.

Flint made sure they kept their title hopes alive as they made it nine wins in a row with their success at Denbigh.

There were first half opportunities at both ends and the Silkmen got their noses in front right on the stroke of half-time.

Jay Owen’s free kick picked out Elliott Reeves to head home.

Flint had a two-goal cushion midway through the second period. Sol Forde, who has been a great goalscoring form of late, added another to his impressive tally.

Denbigh pulled one back through Danny Harrison’s own goal but Lee Fowler’s side held on to win.

It also finished 2-1 as third-placed Airbus ended their season with victory away to Guilsfield.

Iwan Matthews’ strike gave the mid-Walians an early lead, but this was cancelled out by Kaiden Cooke in the 18th minute. Just when a draw looked to be the likely outcome, the Wingmakers claimed a winner with six minutes remaining through substitute Nick Rushton.

Gresford Athletic played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Prestatyn Town, who were able to preserve their Cymru North status at the expense of Porthmadog.

Luke Wiltshire forced in a 13th minute opener for Prestatyn, with Gresford managing to haul themselves level 10 minutes into the second period.

Athletic man of the match Dominic Deacon grabbed the equaliser from Charley Edge’s cross.

Deacon tapped in his second following a 64th minute goalmouth scramble, however Prestatyn were back on level terms via former Gresford player Tom Weir.

In Saturday’s only game, Bangor 1876’won 4-0 at Llanidloes.
