ALL Wrexham fans will be excited at the prospect of which players are enticed to sign for the Reds in the summer.

But boss Phil Parkinson was quick to point out in his after-match promotion interview that he wants the club to attract the best young players to the Reds’ flourishing Academy.

“We are building the structure underneath with the academy and that is very important for the future of the club. The owners recognise that,” said Parkinson.

“We had to get back in the league to do that but there’s great people been employed in our academy and they are going to work hard to get some good, young players because that is going to be key as the club progresses.”

Fleur Robinson, the club’s chief executive, also bigged up the Academy in Saturday’s matchday programme.

She wrote: “This club is all about building for the future and an important part of that is developing home grown talent and creating a pathway through the youth ranks to the first team.

“We have gone on the record stating our ambitions of building an infrastructure capable of nurturing North Wales’ finest young talents which builds on a proud history of developing home-grown players.

“An important part of that was the appointment of Andy Lowe as Academy Manager last year and we can see the great progress being made following our recent successful Category 4 audit.”

Former Hartlepool Academy chief Lowe, who has seen the club’s U18s side heading for a top-three finish in the north west’s Youth Alliance, said: “Our main focus is producing players for the first team.

“That fact that we train weekly with and next to the first team, while being involved in reserve games, is testament to the hard work of the coaching staff and the multidisciplinary team. This is also testament to the first-team staff.”

Wrexham’s U14s Academy team, meanwhile, have two games left in their race for the title.

A 6-2 victory over the FAW U17s Girls side keeps them on top by a point from The New Saints, who they play at Park Hall on the final day of the season.

Zac Jones took his tally for the season to 20 in the victory but he is nine goals behind Connah’s Quay Nomads’ Kai Davies, who scored twice in his side’s 6-1 win over Bala Town.

Noah Bayliss hit all four in Flint Town United’s 4-2 win over Newtown while Caiden Baker-Williams, Jack Davies, Jake Pendlebury and Harri Edwards netted in an impressive 4-1 victory for Airbus at TNS.

The Saints gained revenge in the U15s League beating Airbus 3-1 while despite goals from Jac Jones, Zac Hughes and Toby Lemon, Flint lost 4-3 at Newtown.

Wrexham also suffered a 4-3 defeat to Colwyn Bay in the U16s League but Flint enjoyed a 3-1 success at home to Newtown.

Nomads triumphed 7-0 at Bala and Airbus were beaten 6-3 at home by TNS.

Flint are still in with a shout for the U12s crown and an 8-1 win over Newtown certainly helped their cause.

Will Harding-Pears (2), Harry Martins (2), Rafael Frank, Solomon Ikpa, Mared Lloyd and Noel Twist got the goals.

Airbus won 5-1 at TNS as goals by Harry Williams, Fynley Wardle, Arthur Williams, Thomas Wright and Frank Jones did the damage while Alex Kolodziejski bagged all four in Nomads’ 4-3 success against Aberystwyth.

U13s results: Airbus 1 TNS 5; Flint 4 Newtown 4; Bala 3 Nomads 4.
