JACOB MENDY won't play again this season and Phil Parkinson admits he can afford not to risk James Jones in the final two games with automatic promotion already secured.

Gambia international Mendy sustained a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win at Colchester United on April 6 and requires surgery, ruling the wing-back out of Saturday's trip to Crewe Alexandra and the final day clash at home to Stockport County who have also booked their place in League One as champions.

"Jacob is going to have an operation," said Parkinson.

"If there is a positive to having an injury like that is the fact that we have already got promotion.

"He can have his rehab now through the summer and hopefully come back strong.

"Obviously no-one likes being injured but Kevin Mulholland and his team are working hard to resolve that problem."

Jones has missed the run-in after going off with a hamstring problem in the 1-0 home win against Notts County on February 17.

Parkinson said the midfielder is making good progress and could have a chance of featuring against Stockport on April 27 but won't take a gamble on him if not fully fit.

"James is getting closer but now we can just take our time with him," added the Reds' boss.

"He may have a chance for the last game of the season, we will assess him and see how he goes this week.

"But we don't need to take a risk with him now."

Parkinson still has plenty of options going into the clash against fifth placed Crewe at Gresty Road when Wrexham will aim to extend the three-game winning run.

With a top-three finish guaranteed, the Reds' boss has not decided whether he will utilise his squad and give fringe players a chance.

"We will look at how everybody is," he said.

"We will have a good few days training and then decide on the team towards the end of the week."
