A NEW star was born against Colchester United while Paul Mullin also became a centurion on a day Wrexham took a step closer to automatic promotion in League Two.

Prolific striker Mullin already has legendary status at The Racecourse and he scored his 100th goal for the club as Phil Parkinson's men secured a 2-1 comeback win at The JobServe Community Stadium.

Mullin, who reached the milestone in under three full seasons since arriving from Cambridge in the summer of 2021, got Wrexham back on level terms but it was Max Cleworth who secured all three points for the Reds with his first league goal.

Young centre-back Cleworth has earned rave reviews for his impressive and assured performances in defence over recent months but he became a hero at the other end when he headed home the winner with just five minutes remaining to secure a big win for Wrexham in the quest for a top-three finish.

Here's how the players rated.

ARTHUR OKONKWO: Dropped an early cross which could have been costly and only had one real save to make. 6

RYAN BARNETT: Back in the team and supplied superb cross for Mullin to head home the equaliser and reach his century milestone. 7

MAX CLEWORTH: Has done really well in defence and was the hero at the other end with his first league goal which sealed victory. 7

EOGHAN O’CONNELL: Colchester weren’t easy fodder but O’Connell was a colossus for Wrexham with another superb display in middle of defence. 8

TOM O’CONNOR: Solid performance after switching from midfield to centre-back. 7

JACOB MENDY: His return from injury only lasted 34 minutes. 5

ANDY CANNON: Wrexham upped the tempo after going behind and Cannon led the way as he drove his team on, covering every blade of grass. 7

GEORGE EVANS: The Reds’ midfield was more in the game after going behind and he had assist for the winner. 7

JAMES MCCLEAN: Could have done better for Colchester’s goal but put it behind him. 6

PAUL MULLIN: Got his 100th Wrexham goal and played his part in a massive win in race for promotion. 7

STEVEN FLETCHER: Never stopped working but it was a difficult first half when Wrexham were flat. 6
