PHIL PARKINSON goes back to where it all began tomorrow admitting Wrexham must leave Colchester United with a win in the race for automatic promotion in League Two.

The Reds lost 1-0 at Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night and remain third in the table, four points behind leaders Stockport County and on the same tally as second placed Mansfield Town, although the top-two have a game in hand.

But although it was a missed opportunity to put more distance between themselves and the chasing pack in the race for a top-three finish - fourth placed MK Dons are two points behind having played a match more - Wrexham's destiny remains in their own hands.

Parkinson took his first steps in management with Colchester in 2003 but with only five games remaining in the quest for a second successive promotion, there will be no room for sentiment against the relegation-threatened U's at The JobServe Community Stadium

"We are going to have to go there and win the game," said Parkinson.

"I want to make sure that the all-round performance is more consistent than it was at Doncaster.

"That is consistently taking care in possession, but consistently taking care of when the moments come for us and I didn't think we did that well enough on Tuesday.

"All I am thinking about is getting the team right for the weekend and producing the performance which gives us the best chance of winning the game."

Wrexham won their previous two away games 3-1 to improve their record on the road before losing at Doncaster.

But Parkinson won't dwell on the defeat with the Reds still well placed in the push for promotion.

"The last couple of away games, we were excellent at Grimsby and Morecambe," he added.

"Of course we came to Doncaster to replicate those performances and weren't able to do it.

"But they key thing is where we are in the league table and can we finish the job off in the remaining games of the season?"
