PHIL PARKINSON hailed Jack Marriott after the striker scored a quickfire hat-trick in Wrexham reserves' 7-1 win against a youthful Salford City in the Central League fixture.

Second string manager Dave Jones named a vastly experienced side for the behind-closed doors clash at The Racecourse and Marriott, yet to score for the first-team since joining the Reds from Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day, bagged a treble by the fourth minute!

"Jack got a hat-trick inside five minutes," said Parkinson. "I don't think I have ever seen anything quite like it.

"There have been quicker hat-tricks in games time-wise but right from the start, to score a quickfire hat-trick was brilliant for him."

Sam Dalby, who partnered Marriott in attack, netted a brace with Jordan Tunnicliffe and Jordan Davies also on the scoresheet, with Wrexham leading 5-1 at half-time.

Mark Howard, Aaron Hayden, Ben Tozer, Callum McFadzean, Tom O'Connor and James McClean also started the match, and Parkinson was pleased to see players get some much-needed game-time.

"We got the game at The Racecourse which is nice for the lads," said Parkinson. "It was against a young Salford team but that didn't really matter.

"It was about a lot of the senior boys getting some game-time and our goalscorers getting goals.

"It was a really good work-out for the lads and a good day's work. Everyone came out of it fine."

O'Connor made his comeback from a minor foot fracture as a late substitute in Saturday's 1-0 derby defeat to Tranmere Rovers and was passed fit after picking up a knock in the League Two clash while McClean, currently serving a two-match ban, was also involved.

"Tom got 60 minutes and we got some minutes into James McClean as well because we want to keep him going so that was good for him," added Parkinson.

"All-round, we got what we wanted out of the exercise."
