STEVE DALE says the size of the defeat against Adran Premier leaders Cardiff City on Sunday was tough on his Wrexham side.

The title favourites eventually ran out 6-1 winners, but three of these goals arrived in the closing quarter-of-an-hour and the Reds were competitive prior to this.

Indeed, Rosie Hughes' first half penalty made it one-apiece at that stage and Cardiff were just 2-1 up at the interval.

Boss Dale told the club's YouTube channel: "Never a six-one. I think for large periods of the game, we've had them on the back foot a little bit.

"I think the way that we set up the game-plan, the girls followed it to a tee. We got a little bit tired second half and a few mistakes starts to creep in and once you start conceding two, three goals, then obviously the momentum goes away from you.

"So, really disappointed, obviously, with the scoreline and obviously the defeat."

Sunday marked a home debut for Annie Small and she said: "I don't think the scoreline really reflected the game properly.

"I think we tested them in moments and they didn't know what to do with it, but all-in-all, I think it's something to build on, reflect and then take it into the next game at The Racecourse against Swansea."

Chelsea are in Women’s Champions League action tonight as they to Ajax in the quarter-finals.

The other tie pairs Benfica will Lyon.
