WREXHAM'S quest for automatic promotion from League Two took a dent after losing 1-0 to local rivals Tranmere Rovers at The Racecourse on Saturday.

1. Why have Wrexham suddenly hit a goal drought at home?

The Reds had 25 chances against Tranmere Rovers but only four were on target. For the second game running, Wrexham dominated the game but weren't ruthless enough in the final third.

Despite some neat build-up play, Phil Parkinson's men lacked a cutting edge and failed to score for the second game in a row, with both at The Racecourse.

Wrexham started March by scoring seven goals in two games which resulted in wins against Accrington Stanley and Morecambe but the Reds have gone off the boil and need to find their shooting boots with only eight. games go to.

2. Why Saturday’s trip to Grimsby becomes a must-win game?

Wrexham are running out of games in the quest for a top-three finish.

Their automatic promotion rivals have also suffered bad spells but now is not the time to hit a poor run of form with only eight matches remaining.

Wrexham are well-placed and they won their last away fixture at Morecambe so they will be buoyed by that heading to Grimsby, the final outing before leaders Mansfield Town arrive at The Racecourse for a top-of-the-table showdown.

3. James McClean has been Wrexham’s signing of the season and he was sorely missed against Tranmere.

McClean has played at the highest level and won more than 100 caps for Republic of Ireland.

He's showed no sign of slowing down since arriving at The Racecourse and has done a good job in three different positions for Wrexham - left wing-back, in attack and more recently in midfield.

Utility player McClean has also captained the side and he is a real leader on the pitch who was badly missed against Tranmere. He completes his suspension at Grimsby on Saturday and will have a big part to play in the remaining fixtures.

Of the eight matches remaining, four are at home and four are away.
